Course Description:
The awareness and recognition of improvised explosive devices by law enforcement and first responders is vital to homeland security within the United States. This program is a 1 day (six hours) classroom course that is focused toward law enforcement and first responders ability to identify hazardous materials and devices. The course is structured to accommodate up to 20 students.
At the conclusion of this course, students will have the basic skills, abilities, and knowledge to effectively identify and alert the proper authorities to suspected hazardous materials and Improvised Explosive Devices.
Students will gain a basic understanding to the components and basic workings of IED systems and the cautions for working around them as well as the possibility of their utilization against law enforcement and first responders.

- Identification of explosives, hazardous materials, Improvised Explosive Devices, and their precursors
- Types of Improvised Explosive Devices initiators and triggering systems commonly encountered.
- Effects of explosives on persons and material
- First responder procedures in the event any hazardous device is discovered
